Roethlisberger The Rapist

Filed under: Uncategorized — drtone @ 8:29 am

As the new National Football League season begins, it seemed inevitable that Commissioner Roger Goodell would reduce the 6-game suspension of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who “sexually assaulted” a woman in Georgia earlier this year. Goodell reduced the suspension from six games to four, although it is clear that Roethlisberger should have been suspended for the season or kicked out of the league.  Any other man who was not rich and famous would have been charged in the case. It is worth noting that the police sergeant who took charge at the scene of the “alleged” violation  lost his job for being too chummy with Roethlisberger and his two bodyguards, both of whom are former cops.

This is the third or fourth time Roethlisberger, who is 6’5″ and weighs 240 lbs., has been accused of rape. Those are the public accusations, and we must believe that his handlers have hushed up any number of other incidents. Steelers President Art Rooney II supported Roethlisberger’s request for a reduction, a departure for Rooney, who went on record with his anger in the wake of the April incident. Goodell’s action is typical of the NFL’s hypocrisy, and I predict it will come back to bite him and the league. To play quarterback at a professional level requires both self-confidence and aggressiveness. Unfortunately, those qualities are often accompanied by excessive self-regard and unquenchable anger, as seems to be true of Roethlisberger, who seems unable to learn and will do it again.
